“I’m from Kolkata. I used to sing the hits of Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu at ‘live’ concerts there. My keyboardist observed that I got the maximum applause when I sang Udit Narayan’s songs. I know I sound like him but I don’t copy him for sure.”

Bhatt, in a hot sweat now, continues, “One can copy someone’s style of singing.. but how can one sound like someone else unless it comes naturally? If I sound like Uditji, it’s natural. See, I sound like him even while I’m talking to you. ” When told about the rumours that Udit Narayan had called up Sanjeev-Darshan’s father, composer Shravan,to avoid promoting him, Bhatt responds, “How can you say that? He has a high market value, he’s too big a name to stoop to this level.” Narayan remained unavailable for comment. But Shravan denied that Narayan had called him up, “I don’t think Uditji even knows that a singer by the name of Shaurin Bhatt exists.”

Meanwhile, Bhatt is ready with an eight-song private album.. composed by Sanjeev-Darshan, and has sung a duet with Kumar Shanu for an upcoming project. Bhatt has been around on Mumbai’s music scene for the last nine years. He sang a duet for Sanjeev-Darshan for a movie titled Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse in with Kavita Krishnamoorthy. The film never saw the light of the day.. the album was released though. After that, the singer struck a chord with the composer duo and their father.
